I Resigned From Greensboro 101
I resigned from the board of Greensboro 101 tonight. So did Sue, Ben and Jay. They’ve already written posts about it. I’ve been writing and erasing most of the night, but I still can’t decide how much to say or how to say it. In between, I’ve been reading what other people are saying.
“The RMA report was posted on Greensboro101 anonymously this morning without any input from or knowledge of the editorial board. I believe the board should have been included in a decision that could be interpreted as our approving the report’s being posted online. We had no prior knowledge of the posting.”
No, we didn’t, and yes, we should have.
“Polinsky and Forrest said they were concerned about possible legal ramifications for publishing the report.”
Actually, that was the least of my concerns. GPD was my big #1. And there are others.
Mr. Sun commented on Ed’s blog:
“This was a highly charged environment with built-in time pressure featuring a cast of characters unfamiliar with the situation and their roles. Before we help them back themselves into a corner, let’s see what they all think after they’ve had a chance to sleep on it.”
I absolutely appreciate what he’s trying to do here, but I was ready to resign this weekend, if the board voted to allow the report to be posted on 101. But we were never given a chance to vote.
I do agree that I need to sleep on it, but not on my decision to resign. I’m at peace with that. But maybe tomorrow I’ll have a better idea of what else I want to say, if anything, beyond what I already said here. Sometimes, the less said, the better.
I’m meditating on this tonight, from Isaiah 26:3:
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
And for GPD…

[...] Pattern: No. Anomaly: Yes. But I didn’t resign because of Roch’s management of 101. There’s no reason to make assumptions about why any of us resigned. Read our own words: Sue, Jay, Ben, me. [...]

Shu, over the weekend, various factors led me to become increasingly concerned about the possibility that someone would try to upload the RMA report to 101, particularly an unredacted copy of the report, and I became more aware of the danger that would pose to a number of people, particularly folks associated with GPD, an organization I have vocally and sincerely supported. So on Saturday evening, I emailed Roch and stated my objection to the report being posted on 101, shared my concerns about the content, and asked if the editorial board was going to discuss the possibility. (At this point, I was discussing a hypothetical situation.) I received a response addressing the content concerns, but my request for a board discussion was not addressed. And we were not warned or given a vote before the report was posted. I would have voted “no” or resigned prior to posting, if given the opportunity.

Greensboro101 Editorial Board Resignation
I have officially resigned from the Greensboro101 Editorial Board and also as one of the business advisors of Altmedia101. From the beginning of Greensboro101, I have supported the business of citizen journalism and Roch has done great work in this…

I’m confused.
If, as both you and Sue suggest, “…We had no prior knowledge of the posting.”, why were you “…ready to resign this weekend, if the board voted to allow the report to be posted on 101.”
If you were ready to resign over the weekend, it would suggest to me that at some point in time, someone, somewhere, at least alluded to the possibility that the RMA might be posted on 101. Seems to me that if you all were totally blindsided as has been suggested, you wouldn’t have even been thinking about resigning over the weekend. Something smells fishy about this whole thing.
