Homeless Man Charged In Downtown Stabbing

A homeless man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury after he stabbed another man in downtown Greensboro yesterday. The victim’s friend said that a man started an argument with the victim, and then followed and attacked him after he walked away.
Although the N&R story reports that the homeless assailant is from Wilmington, his name and age match the description of a North Carolina man with a lengthy criminal history, dating back to 1996 (in New Hanover County, where Wilmington is located) including alcohol, drug, and assault charges and short stints in prison, and who’s also had half a dozen convictions in Guilford County since 2000, including two assault convictions, which sent him back for another (brief) stay in prison. (My sources confirm that the assailant has been arrested in Greensboro in the past.)
Obviously, I don’t know the whole story, but it seems fairly clear that the system isn’t working here — probably in more ways than one.
