I went to the annual ConvergeSouth Barbecue at David and Jinni Hoggard’s on Friday night. It was great to see my blogging friends.

At the end of the evening, Hogg asked if I wanted to take the rest of the food (there was lots left!) to feed some of our homeless friends. Since it was Friday night, the NightWatch team was already out, so I called and they sent the van by to pick up the food. I’ve since heard from the night’s team leader that the barbecue was a big hit with our friends and much appreciated!

Thank you, David and Jinni, for your warm hospitality, and for sharing that hospitality with our homeless friends. God bless you. :)

Update: Sue comments and says that JW took the extra ConvergeSouth lunches to Greensboro Urban Ministry. Yay, JW! A big “thank you” to ConvergeSouth for helping feed homeless and hungry people! :)

Update #2: Just got an email from NightWatch team member Erik R., who was on the truck Friday night. He says:

The BBQ was well received last Friday… This week could we get ribs???

LOL, Erik. And thanks again, Hogg. :)

JW had already taken the leftover sandwiches from lunch to the Urban Ministry earlier that day. She and I asked Hogg if there would be leftover barbecue and when he said yes, we asked him to offer it to you (otherwise, he was going to give it to people there who wanted some). We’re glad it fed some of the hungry in Greensboro.

Sue, that’s awesome. JW asked me earlier in the morning about taking the leftover lunches again, like last year when we took them and gave them to some homeless friends on the street, but I had to leave for that Greensboro Urban Ministry Conference right at 12:30, so we talked about some other ways to get the lunches to hungry people. I wasn’t sure what happened after that, so thanks for letting me know! And thank you for making that suggestion to Hogg. That was so thoughtful of you both, and you definitely made our friends happy! From what I heard, they loved it! :)

    As an aside…

Seeing all of the extra ‘que, Yes!Weekly’s Brian Clarey suggested that I talk to Jordan Green to see if Food Not Bombs might be interested in sharing in the bounty.

Jordan politely declined noting that FNB serves up only vegetarian food in their work to feed the hungry. Their loss, Nightwatch’s gain.

Regarding the ribs… never known there to be leftovers of those.

It was great to have you over, CM. Keep up the great work.
