Winston Keeps Cap On Shelter Beds
Posted on November 20th, 2007 in homelessness
From the Winston Salem Journal, 11/20/2007:
“In other action last night, the council… [w]ithdrew a bid to suspend a law restricting how many beds homeless shelters are allowed to have. The council had proposed raising the bed limit from 100 to 125 to handle overflow of homeless people at shelters. But the proposed increase would not have helped because the four major shelters are already at maximum capacity.”
Emily (semi)live-blogs the Council meeting, with commentary: “…For the most part, I’m not surprised at the stereotyping of the homeless by the council…” Read it here.
[Sigh.]

I’d love to go interview those students who are camping out over there. I liked Emily’s post, too.

Want me to pitch my tent on the Forsyth County Courthouse lawn and post a protest sign in front of it? Or perhaps in front of the Winston-Salem Mayor’s house?
