Parent brawl at school proves cop’s point

A few days ago, I posted quotes from a conversation with a cop friend, discussing the problem of juvenile crime and his contention that the ultimate responsibility lies with parents who fail to instill discipline, morality and a sense of responsibility in their children. His point was well illustrated on Tuesday evening at Oak Hill Elementary School in High Point, where a group of parents got into brawl while their children were onstage performing a holiday program. (That’s “holiday” as opposed to “Christmas.” The Guilford County School system is careful to protect students from Jesus. But I’m thinking that Jesus was just exactly who they needed in that school on Tuesday night.)
If parents are willing to yell at and punch each other in public, in a school building, at a holiday show, in front of their children, then how in the world can we expect the children to learn to behave any differently? So instead of asking, “What’s wrong with kids in schools these days? Why do we have so much violence?,” maybe we should be asking, “What’s going on with the parents?” Adding more “parks and rec” programs is not a magic solution. Children need to be parented. By responsible adults.
And no, this isn’t just about kids from poor families or single-parent households. There are children in two-parent, affluent families who are learning bad behavior from mom and dad. If our kids start acting out, maybe the first thing we all need to do is ask ourselves if they learned any of that behavior or any those attitudes at home. And if the answer is “yes,” then it’s time to make some changes — in ourselves.

It is absolutely true about the parents; if mental, physical and emotional abuse is displayed in the household; how are we suppose to expect the kids to grow-up without being scarred and passing on another vicious cycle! Parents acting the way they do today and expecting their kids to have good behavior is greatly impossible to even consider. The way the world is today, there should have been improves over the years, but its only getting worse. Jesus is the solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
La Vaughn, I agree! Thanks for your comment.
