I learned it in the Army

“I want a blog, just so I can put that on there. Will you put that on your blog for me?”

So said one of my sons, as he showed me this news article about a North Carolina man who provided emergency medical assistance to injured car accident victims using medic training he received while playing America’s Army, a video game developed and distributed by the U.S. Army. My son and his cousins play it, and they try to convince me that “video games serve practical purposes.”

For example, America’s Army teaches you how to win a gunfight: Run sideways, while jumping up and down and holding the “crouch” button, and then wait for the green cursor to appear on the other guy’s face. Then click the left mouse button to win!

Wait, I’m trying to think of how that gunfight example is practical…

This unusual blog post is brought to you by: I have sons and nephews. And boys men rule. ;)

  1. “America’s Army” is also a recruiting tool that reports high scoring players to the government so recruiters can seek them out.

    Be afraid, be very afraid…

  2. Why would I be afraid of that?
