I hate addiction

For you and you and you and…
If I could, I would take you someplace safe, and lock the gates against the world, and cook you good food, and let you rest, and laugh with you and cry with you, and read His Words to you about who you really are, and sit with you and listen while Jesus sings over you, and watch you heal. I know who you are. I see the one that He created you to be. I know you’re tired. I know you want it to stop. I long for you to be free. God hears our prayers. It’s Friday now, but Sunday’s coming…
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
“…but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31
“The LORD your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.” — Zephaniah 3:17
“I will love You, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.” — Psalm 18:1-3

I hate addiction too. But we as a society hate the addict rather than the addiction unfortunately.
We in Guilford County have a chance to speak out for the addicted in May; we need to vote down the bond for a larger jail and then demand the Commissioners use the money that would have been spent for a larger ‘holding pen” and build a Rehab center that is able to give the addicted the help they need to change their life.
Did you read my blog on the jail bond issue and why I am against it? BB
Oh Brenda, you echo my thoughts! I went on a tour of a therapeutic treatment community in Durham yesterday (we need one here!) and on the way back commented that we need to focus on substance abuse and mental health treatment in Guilford County before we even think about building a new jail. We agree!
I love the statement about hating the addict instead of addiction. So true, if people could only understand how addiction affects the mind in return affects our actions, then there would be a whole lot more forgiving and understanding; but maybe Im asking too much here. Sorry I just had to go back into time and look at this matter!
LV, I think you mean hating the addiction and loving the addict, maybe? And yeah, I’m with you.
