So true, if people could only understand how addiction affects the mind in return affects our actions, then there would be a whole lot more forgiving and understanding; but maybe Im asking too much here. I went on a tour of a therapeutic treatment community in Durham yesterday (we need one here!) and on the way back commented that we need to focus on substance abuse and mental health treatment in Guilford County before we even think about building a new jail. But we as a society hate the addict rather than the addiction unfortunately. We in Guilford County have a chance to speak out for the addicted in May; we need to vote down the bond for a larger jail and then demand the Commissioners use the money that would have been spent for a larger 'holding pen" and build a Rehab center that is able to give the addicted the help they need to change their life.
