Yes, we have no bananas

My friend Tim and I have spent the past couple of days getting things together to do breakfast tomorrow and breakfast and dinner on Friday for a lot of homeless and hungry people. (We’re not sure how many, but we’re preparing for 180-200 people at each of the three meals, just in case.) In the morning, which is just a few hours away as I type this, we’ll be serving eggs, juice, coffee and baked goods. We couldn’t go buy the perishable foods until this evening, after picking up donated bread items and checking our donated fund balance, and by the time we got to Sam’s, there were no bananas.
We didn’t have time to come up with a fruit alternative (and we didn’t have the money to buy bananas at the regular grocery.) A lot of our friends have dental issues and they need soft foods, so apples and other hard fruits won’t work. Watermelons are good, but we didn’t have the time or manpower to cut up enough to serve in the morning. So, yes (sadly), we have no bananas.
If anyone wants to show up at Grace Community Church at 643 West Lee Street tomorrow morning (08/14/2008) by 7:00 a.m. with enough bananas to feed 180-200 people (or enough cut up watermelon), that would be real awesome. If not, we’ll be content, and quite thankful, for the lovely breakfast that we do have.
Stay tuned!
