Audrie and Jessica, let's keep praying and working...

Mike, thanks so much for that link. I posted about it. And I agree, we don't need more shelters, we need more homes! If we had enough housing for everyone, then there would be space available in the shelters for people who had a housing emergency -- which is what a shelter really should be for! I so appreciate your heart and your message!!

Jenny, I will email you. :)

Whoever posted this seems like such a great advocate for the homeless in our community! As a hospital social worker, this entry touches me on many levels and unfortunately, it is not a unique story as Jessica mentions. If the author would be willing to have further dialogue about this, please email me and let's see if we can put our heads together and get this man the resources he needs, although it seems you tried many avenues already. Thanks!

The real reason this terrible fact is happening is because we, as a nation, have not made it a priority to end homelessness and poverty. As we approach the election on November 4, we need to vote for candidates that will change the way our society has chosen to handle those who are sick, mentally ill, and stricken with substance abuse. We cannot tolerate allowing 1,000 children in our school system to be homeless. Other developed countries around the world do not tolerate this terrible blight. They have universal healthcare and excellent social services. Why don't we? I fully support Sojourners Vote Out Poverty campaign. Please check out: www.sojo.net/blog/voteoutpoverty

I don't want us to build anymore shelters. I want us to build homes! Let's bring Good News to the Poor and November 4! Vote Out Poverty! Rev. Mike Aiken

Such a sad story. And it's really sad that this isn't a unique story.

Things are going to change.

A beautiful post with a terrible message.......I cry as I try to reason all the things we could do - we should do - It is overwhelming...I rest in the fact that I know my God is bigger than my city..I HATE suffering and so does my God and I just need to go where He has me today and make a small difference in the world where I have been placed - where I have a nice house, good clothes, good food..I could be one of these guys - ANY of us could be...These are people that my God loves and today it is my prayer and my passion to love just a tiny bit as He does.
