Budget cuts force cancellation of state homeless conference

Unexpected bad news in my email this morning, from NCCEH:

The North Carolina Interagency Council on Coordinating Homeless Programs has canceled the 2008 Conference on Homelessness. The NC Department of Health and Human Services has found it necessary to cancel this year’s conference because of immediate cuts due to the severe budget crisis facing state government at this time.

Refunds: All paid registrants will receive an automatic refund.

Future Training: The North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness remains committed to ensuring that providers receive the essential training and resources that were to be covered at the conference. In the next few weeks, NCCEH will work with scheduled conference presenters to create a new virtual curriculum to allow you to increase your knowledge and skills. In recognition of reduced or eliminated travel budgets, NCCEH will offer training and resources via conference calls, written materials and online courses.

In this time of economic crisis, it is critical that we continue to plan to end homelessness and provide the best access to services and housing possible.
