It’s not over yet
For a friend who is battling addiction:
You have a very real enemy, and he is out to destroy you.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy… “
– John 10:10a
He is always watching, looking for every opportunity to bring you down.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
– 1 Peter 5:8
But the LORD is watching, too.
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…”
– 2 Chronicles 16:9
His plans for you are good.
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
– Jeremiah 29:11
He came to save you from the enemy.
“… I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
– John 10:10b
The battle you’re in is more than physical, it’s a spiritual battle, too. God wants to arm you for war.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
– Ephesians 6:10-13
The LORD is your shield and the lifter of your head.
“Many are they who say of me,
‘There is no help for him in God.’
But You, O LORD, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
I cried to the LORD with my voice,
And He heard me from His holy hill.
I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.”
– Psalm 3:3
It’s not over yet.

Karen, I believe that addiction is an illness, but it is a spiritual battle, as well. The enemy of your soul wants to use addictions to destroy you. But God is on your side. He tell us in His Word how to prepare for spiritual war with the enemy:
God bless you and keep you, Karen. I’m praying for you right now.

It seems I am in constant battle with the devil. Every day I fight addictions and wonder if I’ll ever be free.
