I’ve been studying what the Bible has to say about caring for the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and the hurting. I came across a really thought-provoking article on the internet:
Cold Beer Banned in Attempt to Prevent Public Drinking: http://bit.ly/3NAxSN Hmmm… Interesting. But will it work?
From The New York Times:
A man was down, immobile at the edge of one of this city’s busiest intersections. No sirens sounded, no ambulance rushed to the scene. Dealing with the scourge that has consumed Alaska’s biggest city is often delegated to two men in a white van, the Community Service Patrol.

My ministry partner, Audrie Keen, describes what we saw while doing street outreach today:
Hurting, lonely people. People who have no voice, people who are hungry, people who need to be warm and have no sleeping bag when the temps drop. People who are heavily addicted to drugs and don’t have a place to get clean. People who have had their feelings hurt by well-meaning people. People who use homeless people. People who are veterans and are begging for money just to have a place to sleep at night. People who want to work and are not able to. That’s only part of what we saw.
Jesus told us to care for the “least of these,” not the best of the worst. If we do what’s easiest, are we serving Him or ourselves?
