Mental Health Association of North Carolina loses accreditation

Bad news for North Carolina’s oldest and largest private, non-profit mental health advocacy organization:

“…[T]he financially troubled Mental Health Association of North Carolina is one of the state’s largest private providers of group homes and treatment programs.

The association lost its accreditation Monday, cutting off the group’s access to federal Medicaid reimbursements.

That’s on top of severe financial problems in recent months that led to employee layoffs and wage cuts for those who remained.

State director of mental health Leza Wainwright says her agency is trying to shift the care of the association’s clients to other providers with as little disruption as possible…”

I contacted the Mental Health Association in Greensboro to ask if the closing of the state agency would have an impact on them. The response:

“While the closing of MHA-NC is a sad event it does not impact the operations of MHA-Greensboro. We are an independent organization with our own Board, budget and oversight.”
~ Paul Evans, Executive Director, MHA-Greensboro

  1. There are several Mental Health Association affiliates in North Carolina. The Mental Health Association of North Carolina is the oldest and any program under it is affected by it’s loss of the National Accreditation required for Medicaid Billing.

Easter Seals UCP took over many programs from MHA-NC and many of which they (ESUCP) are not endorsed for and they are using MHA-NC’s endorsement (not sure if this is even legal). ESUCP is rushing to get endorsed.

ESUCP formed a phony Alliance with MHA-NC right before MHA-NC went under completley. Employees were blindsided and patients were not even told which is a violation of their rights.

Employees of MHA-NC were aquired by ESUCP yet they have not been paid their last checks and accrued vacation payouts by MHA-NC. ESUCP basically denies any responsibility regarding to this money owed Frontline Mental Health Workers Yet they can reap the Benefits of a so called Alliance and patients have no say.

ESUCP did give a rentention bonus to prevent newly aquired employees from going to another agency with their pateints as 2 programs did.

You see if this Alliance between MHA-NC and ESUCP did not exist the State Local Management Entities LME’s would have assigned patients to established and endorsed providers with patient’s input.

They thwarted this whole established process for their own greed.

Again I want to make this clear there are financially sound and endorsed providers in place so it’s not like ESUCP came in to save the day. They came in to score a gain from MHA-NC losses.

During this hostile takeover MHA-NC repeated that this wasn’t a Merger but an Alliance. Now it is evident this was a setup statement do deny any responsibilities for MHA-NC debts.

Patients you should call your Local Management Entity (Local State Mental Health Center) and express your wish to choose your own provider from the available and endorsed ones.

Ex MHA-NC employees call 1-800-NC-LABOR 1-800-NC-LABOR and choose wage and hour option to file your claim for your last check and vacation payout.

Easter Seals UCP if you pull this off you will have made an enormous financial gain and ethically you should pay your newly aquired MHA-NC employees. The Truth.
